The holiday season at the end of year is a big ticket season for Korea as much as summer season, so the blockbusters are held and opened in this season. The movie Warrior’s Way opened at the holiday season with a huge welcoming buzz that JANG Dong-gun made his Hollywood debut. However, the box office turned out a bit disappointing at the opening week, following movies like The Petty Love and Finding Mr. Destiny that appealed to the young audience for their familiar romantic comedy genre.

In the first half of 2010 the total number of the audience was slightly decreased, while the total sales amount was skyrocketed compared to the same period of last year. The total number of the audience from Jan. to Jun. this year was 69, 447, 438 and the total amount of sales turned out 547. 2 billion won in the period.

Rising above all the entertainment talk, Avatar was the hottest issue in the first quarter of 2010. Released on local screens at the end of last year, Avatar stayed at the top of the list for seven consecutive weeks drawing much audience attention through its dual release in 2D and 3D. Its total admissions were over 13 million (based on KOFIC box office records up to March 31, 2010), beating the record held by Korean blockbuster The Host. Its total gross of 123.7 billion KRW (approx. 112 mil USD) also broke Haeundae’s record of 81 Billion KRW (approx. 72 mil USD).
